Former longtime play-by-play man Randy Bloechl will be honored Saturday

The RIT Tigers men’s hockey team is in action at home this weekend against Holy Cross.

The RIT Tigers men’s hockey team skates against the College of Holy Cross in a pair of Atlantic Hockey contests tonight and Saturday in Ritter Arena.

On Saturday, Randy Bloechl, WITR-FM play-by-play announcer for 27 years before stepping down after the 2007-2008 season, will be honored.

RIT (1-4-1, 0-1-1 Atlantic Hockey) recorded a tie and a loss in its first Atlantic Hockey games of the season last weekend at Sacred Heart. RIT rallied from a 3-0 deficit to tie the Pioneers 3-3 Oct. 24, in a game that saw Tigers goaltender Louis Menard became the first RIT goaltender to record two assists in a game at the Division I level. On Oct. 25, RIT fell by a score of 4-2. Freshman Cameron Burt scored a goal in each game for RIT.

Holy Cross (1-1-1, 1-0-1 Atlantic Hockey) dropped its lone game last weekend 6-4 to Providence.

RIT leads the all-time series between the two schools 10-5-0. The Tigers went 4-0 against Holy Cross last season, including two dramatic 5-4 overtime wins in the Atlantic Hockey quarterfinals. Earlier the season, RIT defeated Holy Cross 5-2 and 5-1 on the road. The Tigers have won the last eight contests (six at the Division I level) against Holy Cross, dating back to Nov. 4, 1983.
