Men’s hockey to play pair at Connecticut this weekend

Mike Janda and the Tigers look to creep closer to .500 this weekend at Connecticut.

The RIT Tigers men’s hockey team travels to Storrs, Conn., to play the University of Connecticut in a pair of Atlantic Hockey Association games tonight and Saturday night at 7:05.

RIT (4-6-1, 3-2-1 AHA) split a pair of home contests against Army last weekend, losing 5-3 in the opener and rebounding to win 6-3 on Saturday. The six goals scored by the Tigers on Saturday were the most since they potted six against Bentley on Feb. 24, 2007. RIT broke a 3-3 third period tie with a trio of goals scored by Brennan Sarazin, Mike Janda and Cameron Burt. Junior defenseman Dan Ringwald leads RIT with 10 assists and 11 points. Goaltender Jared DeMichiel is 3-2-0 with a 2.42 goals against average and .914 save percentage.

Connecticut (2-8-0, 2-3-0 Atlantic Hockey) comes into the weekend series having lost six straight games. The Huskies have struggled offensively, with just six goals in the last six games. Last weekend, the Huskies were swept at Canisius 6-0 and 3-2 in overtime.

RIT leads the all-time series between the two schools, 6-4-1. Last season, RIT went 0-1-1 against the Huskies in two road meetings. RIT out shot Connecticut 40-23 in the first meeting but was shutout 3-0. The next night, RIT jumped out to 1-0 lead, but settled for a 1-1 tie. Andrew Favot scored the lone goal for RIT.
