Life after dark Campus life, University Magazine

Ever hear someone say there’s nothing to do at RIT?

IT’S NOT TRUE! (Yes, I’m shouting.)

And you don’t have to take my word for this. Check out the spring issue of RIT: The University Magazine for evidence. The cover and five-page photo essay document RIT life after dark for just a small slice of the year. All of the photos (by University News photo manager Sue Weisler and photo students Julie Kang and Charles Neumann) were shot between December and early February.

There are many more photos in an online gallery on the University News Web site.

Plus, of course, even in this short span of time there were many additional activities that we weren’t able to get to. But I hope this issue will help dispel the image of RIT as a place where students (and faculty and staff) spend all their time working. We do work hard—and a lot of us really like our work. But we also know how to have fun.

The spring issue, in mailboxes and online right now, also includes a package of articles about financing a college education in difficult economic times. We tried to explain why college costs so much, why the investment is worthwhile, and how RIT helps families reach their goal.

We also have stories on the Dorm Challenge, RIT’s new partnership with Rochester General Health System, and the Humans vs. Zombies game (which will happen again April 20-24). These stories shouldn’t be news to members of the campus community, but the majority of the magazine’s readers aren’t on campus and don’t live in the Rochester area. For those readers, the magazine is the only place they’re likely to get this information.

Exclusive to the magazine is the Imagine RIT quiz, intended as a fun way for readers to learn more about the Innovation and Creativity Festival, taking place 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, May 2.

It occurs to me that not everyone who finds this post will receive a copy of the magazine. If you’d like one, drop me an e-mail. Or, you can check out the online version.
