Cover girls Inside N&E

I know you’ve heard this one before, but I really love the March-April edition of Athenaeum. Well, to be honest, I really love the cover of the March-April issue of Athenaeum. Don’t get me wrong, the inside is great, too. But what could be better than a cover shot of the RIT women’s hockey team co-captains— wearing their “pinkalicious” jerseys—who look like they’re about to kick someone’s butt? It’s just beautiful.

After reading the accompanying feature story, you’ll realize that these RIT women are gridiron tough, smart, and absolutely love the one thing that has created a bond among them—hockey. I read the story to my two young children, who incidentally didn’t know that girls played hockey. My 4-year old daughter is the perfect candidate to be inspired by these tremendous athletes who exhibit drive, determination, energy and femininity. One minute my daughter is lovingly arranging her Barbie dolls and My Little Pony figurines in tea-party formation; the next minute she is celebrating a successful “take down” of my 8-year-old son just after he destroys the perfectly assembled tea party.

I’m always looking out for role models—aside from myself and my husband—who can inspire my children to work hard and play hard. These RIT athletes are proving that they can be successful on and off the ice, while surviving a “take down” or two. And, I’m pleased to feature them in this edition of Athenaeum.

Enjoy!

It is a fantastic cover and story, showcasing the breadth and depth of the student experience at RIT, while also highlighting one of our finest assets.
