Wow, most of us have been looking forward to this for just over five months! That’s how long it’s been since RIT announced that President Bill Clinton would serve as this year’s commencement speaker. And now, suddenly, we find that the big event is at our door step. The celebration of another successful school year begins this Friday, May 25, at 10 a.m.
Just to keep you up to date, interest in this year’s commencement, particularly in light of President Clinton’s visit, has been intense. To accommodate a larger than normal audience, Academic Convocation, the ceremony at which the former president will speak, was moved outdoors. More than 13,000 tickets for the event have been distributed. The big question now is whether the weather will cooperate.
The local broadcast media has been gearing up for its coverage. For example, R News is planning to telecast Clinton’s address live, and WHEC (Channel 10) and WHAM (Channel 13) plan to stream coverage on their Web sites. You can also look for live streaming video on the RIT Web site.
There’s even some national reporting in the works. American Jounral, an online publication, provided a preview of Clinton’s visit to RIT over the weekend. Coverage of his remarks is planned for later this week.
Regardless of whether you join us here on campus or take part in the excitement through any of the various media sources, this year’s commencement should prove to be quite memorable. I just can’t believe it’s almost here.
