Gearing up for back to school Inside N&E

It’s that time of year—parents and students know it as back to school. It’s “back to school” for those of us in the News & Events office, as well. We’ve been busy planning what’s ahead for our publication this academic year, such as opportunities to direct our readers to the Web for expanded coverage of top stories. But, we’ll also bring back some of our favorite elements, like student profiles that will run each month, and Viewpoints, which gives our readers a chance to submit their thoughts on issues affecting higher education.

The start of a new academic year—along with the addition of RIT President Bill Destler—brings with it plenty of opportunities. We’re hoping to be able to fill our pages with “new” news, if that makes sense—not just recycled news from the past. We don’t want our loyal readers to see the same stuff year after year. As always, we encourage you to contact us with information about cutting-edge research, new and unique programs and events, and faculty/staff and student profiles that will shed some light on who we are at RIT.

Thanks, as always, for reading!

So my favorite thing about RIT's website right now is this page: http://www.rit.edu/~orient/lingo.php3 --it's lingo our new "freshies" should know. Cracks me up, but its a great idea! They'd have been lost without it.

I wish I had this when I started work at RIT in 1997. On my first day, it felt like everyone was speaking a foreign language I didn't understand.
