It’s a new day—or perhaps I should say, it’s a new daily.
On Tuesday, RIT News unveiled a “new look” for News & Events Daily, our nearly 3-year-old e-newsletter.
Highlights include:
Campus Spotlight — larger and more prominent, at the top, giving greater visibility to RIT News photographer Sue Weisler’s excellent photos
Today’s weather — including an icon depicting the day’s forecast and high (in red) and low (in blue) temperatures
Thumbnail photos — alongside some news stories
Video and podcast sections — more prominent
Plus, there are special sections for RIT Global, NTID and RIT & RGHS Alliance news; “Viewpoints” (opinion essays), “For and About Alumni” stories and new “Student Spotlight” features (coming soon); and an expanded events calendar.
As always, the newsletter also highlights sports news and scores, Tiger Beat Blog posts and RIT in the News clips.
Coming soon: advertising! While some readers might not view the inclusion of paid ads as an enhancement, we believe that tasteful, unobtrusive ads will allow advertisers to effectively share their organization’s messages with our targeted audience of almost 20,000 subscribers (more information in the near future).
Overall, the redesigned News & Events Daily—modeled after the University News website—is visually appealing and gives the award-winning e-newsletter a “fresh look.”
Your comments on the changes are welcome. You’re invited to give feedback via e-mail to news&events@mail.rit.edu or by contacting me personally at 475-5697 or mjsuns@rit.edu. Of course, you’re also encouraged to share your thoughts with RIT News and other readers by posting remarks here.
Next time: A short history of News & Events and behind the scenes of the N&E Daily redesign. Coming up in a future post, details on how to become an advertiser.
Have a great weekend!
