Wide World of Tiger Sports – May 13 Sports

Then there was one. One sport remaining, two teams still competing in the 2007-08 RIT Athletics Season.

Last night, the RIT Athletic Department held its annual Student-Athlete Award banquet. Click here for the 2007-08 Award Winners.

Men’s lacrosse (11-8) made its fourth ECAC Upstate championship game in the last five years. Unlike the first three, however, the Tigers were unable to come out on the winning end this time around, losing to Nazareth on Mother’s Day. Wes Adam was named one of the two RIT Male Athletes of the Week. Andrew Ruocco ended his Tiger career fourth all-time in goals (143), seventh in assists (94) and fourth in points (237).

Baseball (24-12) had its tremendous run ended in the ECAC Upstate Tournament on Saturday. The Empire 8 announced its 2008 All-Conference Baseball team on Tuesday, with Geoff Dornes garnering Player of the Year honors for the second straight year. Amazingly, Dornes is just a sophomore.

Check out Wednesday’s (5/14) Rochester Democrat and Chronicle College Page, as senior baseball standout Matt George will be featured.

Outdoor track and field competes at the ECAC Championships this weekend. Dereck Bojanowski was named one of the two RIT Male Athletes and Empire 8 Runner of the Week after his strong performance last weekend.

Over the weekend, the Tigers held its annual “Tigers Give Back” and “Kids Night Out” events to give back to the local community.
