Former SNL cast member Melissa Villaseñor and internet icon Hank Green will appear at this year’s RIT’s Brick City Homecoming and Weekend in October.

Former Saturday Night Live cast member Melissa Villaseñor and Hank Green, an internet icon, are scheduled to appear at Rochester Institute of Technology’s Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend in October. Additionally, many events, including several for RIT’s individual colleges, are scheduled during the weekend for the more than 145,000 RIT alumni and their families, as well as current RIT students, faculty, staff, and retirees.

RIT researchers discover most distant active black hole ever

A Rochester Institute of Technology postdoctoral researcher and an associate professor in the School of Physics and Astronomy, along with a team behind the Cosmic Evolution Early Release Science (CEERS) Survey, have used new observations from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) to confirm the existence of the most distant active supermassive black hole ever found.

The team has also identified several galaxies in the very early universe and low mass black holes in distant galaxies. This work has been accepted and published by The Astrophysical Journal Letters. The initial findings are the first steps in understanding how common these less massive black holes and galaxies might have been in the early universe.

Women Reshaping The Cybersecurity Industry

The cybersecurity industry has become so essential and exciting. What is coming around the corner? What are the concerns we should keep an eye out for? How does one succeed in the cybersecurity industry? As a part of this interview series, Medium had the pleasure of interviewing Shena Seneca Tharnish BS '96.

Tharnish is VP of Secure Networking and Cybersecurity Solutions for Comcast Business. She joined Comcast Business in 2017 after serving as SVP, Enterprise Network Infrastructure at PNC Bank for five years in Pittsburgh, PA, and as a senior leader at The Home Depot, Inc. for twelve years in Atlanta, GA. Shena has over 24 years of experience in Information Technology — leading and managing network engineering and application development services. Prior to joining The Home Depot, Tharnish worked as a network consultant with carriers MCI WorldCom and Concert Communications (BT/AT&T), designing wide area networks for businesses.

This agency has oversight of 12 Divisions that provide public safety services to our community. Director Tantalo retired in 2020 as the Chief of Police of the Irondequoit Police Dept.
