Study Abroad in Germany: Flood Hydrology and Wine Ecology

Samantha Phillips ‘25 (hospitality and tourism management) took Flood Hydrology and Wine Ecology in Wurzburg, Germany, during summer 2025 as part of the Study Abroad program. The course examines how “climate change impacts wine production and how sustainable practices can reduce runoff, protect ecosystems, and support climate-resilient agriculture.”

Says Samantha of the class, “I personally found the course very relevant to my major, hospitality, as we talked a lot about what customers and tourists expect from the wine industry in Germany and the Finger Lakes and how these businesses can account for that.”

In addition to her studies, Samantha was able to travel around Germany.

“We got to explore some of the surrounding towns,” she says, “including Rothenburg, Sommerhausen, and Randersacker.”

“My trip to Germany was amazing!"
