+1 MBA Pathways

Get Two Degrees

Maximize your earning potential with a +1 MBA

Undergraduate students can earn a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in one year after completing an undergraduate degree. The accelerated +1 MBA program allows you to waive core MBA courses by taking specified undergraduate business courses: a "B" grade or better to receive the MBA course waivers.

Why the +1 MBA Matters: AACSB Insights highlights how one-year MBA programs deliver high ROI and cost-efficiency—accelerating early-career growth without pausing professional momentum. Read more here.

+1 MBA Pathways

There are several ways to enroll in the +1 MBA:

  • First-year students – Outstanding undergraduate applicants may be offered conditional early acceptance to the +1 MBA program from designated undergraduate degree programs, as incoming first-year students.
  • Current undergraduate students – RIT students currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program may apply for conditional admission to a combined accelerated bachelor’s/master’s pathway after their second or third year of study, depending upon their bachelor’s degree program.
  • Students from +1 MBA Partner Universities – Exclusive +1 MBA benefits are extended to business undergraduates at +1 MBA Partner Universities. View more details here

+1 MBA Program Details

Outstanding undergraduate applicants may qualify to follow an accelerated +1 MBA Early Acceptance Pathway to get their MBA in one extra year.

The +1 MBA Early Acceptance Pathway is for successful RIT applicants who are offered admission into a designated undergraduate RIT program and are offered conditional early acceptance into the +1 MBA program upon their acceptance into RIT. This reduces the time to an advanced degree by one year, reduces total tuition expense, provides a guaranteed minimum graduate scholarship, and delivers wage premiums between 10% to 33% upon graduation.

Learn more about Combined Accelerated Bachelor's/Master's Early Acceptance Pathways

If you are not accepted into a designated undergraduate RIT program, all majors at RIT are eligible for the +1 MBA enrolled student pathway after arrival at RIT.

A master of business administration (MBA) typically takes two years to complete, after completing an undergraduate degree. In the +1 MBA, you’ll complete your MBA in 1 year after the completion of your undergraduate degree. This pathway entails earning credits as an undergraduate that count toward up to 6 graduate MBA courses to be waived. The +1 MBA enables you to combine two degrees, leading to increased earning potential, while saving you both time and money.

For complete details on approved +1 MBA course waivers for early accept programs, please view the course waiver agreements for RIT programs. Programs covered include:

Course Waivers

Courses qualifying for waiver review are subject to the following conditions:

  • B grade or better must be earned in courses reviewed for waivers
  • May waive up to 6 total core MBA courses
  • Courses for waivers must be taken within 5 years of matriculating into the MBA program

GMAT Waiver

GMAT and GRE tests are not required for domestic students or international students graduating from a US university.

  • Only six graduate core courses can be waived.
  • Students must earn a B or better in each course to receive the waiver.
  • Applicants must have completed the specific courses at RIT or a 4+1 partner school.
  • With approval from the associate dean, director of graduate admissions, or director of students services, similar coursework from the following institutions may count toward graduate waivers:
    • Non-partner AACSB-accredited four-year undergraduate programs.
    • Non-partner regionally-accredited four-year domestic undergraduate programs with a reputation for excellence and rigor.
    • Regionally-accredited two-year (community) college in these cases only:
      • Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting
      • Microeconomics and Macroeconomics
      • Principles of Marketing
      • Organizational Behavior and Leadership
      • Corporate Finance
  • College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams do not count towards waivers.
  • Advanced Placement (AP) credits do not count toward waivers.
  • Waivers are valid for up to five years from when the student completed the first undergraduate course for that particular waiver.
  • Applicants must meet the minimum admissions requirements in order to receive waivers.
  • MS students are not eligible for course waivers.

It is critical that you collaborate with your advisor to develop a plan of study for the +1 MBA to ensure completing necessary courses on time.

Nothing beats the wonderful people I have met here. My professors have helped me immensely with case studies and showed me how to write graduate-level essays. My classmates come from all over the globe, bringing rich experiences, knowledge, and culture. There is so much to learn from their different perspectives! The administrators could not have been more helpful. They have always provided me the support that I could not have done without.
