Bio

Dr. Hasan Mahmud is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Rochester Institute of Technology. His research focuses on the psychology of AI, particularly in the areas of human-AI collaboration and algorithmic decision-making. He studies the integration of AI into decision processes and the resulting psychological outcomes, such as algorithm aversion and appreciation. His work investigates the effects of algorithmic decisions on human judgment and behavior to inform the design of AI systems that are responsible, fair, and aligned with societal values. Dr. Mahmud holds a Ph.D. in Software Engineering, an MBA in Marketing, and an M.Sc. in International Business and Entrepreneurship. Prior to academia, he spent 12 years in the banking sector, where he led projects on business process automation and decision support systems.

Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) engage undergraduate students in long-term, large-scale, multidisciplinary project teams that are led by faculty. VIP courses are project-based, team-based courses directly supporting faculty research and scholarship. VIPs under this course number have a particular focus on interdisciplinary humanities and social sciences expertise, with membership in teams across RIT colleges.

A keen awareness of the principles and procedures of cybersecurity is a management necessity with universal business implications. Success in today's global economy requires a focus on cybersecurity strategy and management with governance as an overarching consideration in all risk assessment and management related endeavors.
