Bio

Melody joined the RIT community in 2018 within the Wellness department, supporting students and the leadership team whom serve students. She is very passionate about supporting students in achieving their academic goals.

Prior to her time at RIT, Melody worked at Ortho Clinical Diagnostics as a scientist and a user experience research analyst for over 6 years. She enjoyed working with customers, engineers and design teams in helping design medical devices with the end user’s wants and needs in mind. She has also worked for several years as a secondary science teacher and truly enjoyed bringing science to life in the classroom and engaging her students. Melody received her B.S. in Biology and her Master’s in Secondary Science Education.

Hobbies include traveling, spending time outdoors staying active, camping and hiking with her family and dog, and being with her family of five.

This course, the second in the First-year Business 4 Credit Experience, applies business and technology tools to create a modified business plan. Supported by guest speakers on a variety of professional development topics, along with student and professional mentors, students in this project-centered course use the Business Model Canvas innovation tool and learn to identify and communicate the nine key elements of a business model. Students will complete a team project that outlines the business case for a new product or service to address a selected challenge or opportunity. Student teams present a business case in both a one-page document and a 10-minute presentation pitch.
