From Campus Leader to KPMG: Navigating the Future of Accounting

In what ways has Saunders/RIT prepared you for the job market?

Saunders gave me so many opportunities to apply what I was learning in class before I ever started my career. Between internships, leadership roles, and working with classmates on real projects, I was able to build both the technical skills and the soft skills employers were looking for. I also learned how to use new technologies, including AI, and adapt to different situations, which I know will continue to be valuable as the accounting profession changes. Moreover, the connections I made along the way through the organizations I was a part of and the Accounting Career Fair ensured that I was able to quickly adapt to my new work environment.

What do you feel is the most distinctive advantage gained from your Saunders experience?

For me, it was the chance to try new experiences without the risk of failure. Other than my degree, I graduated with leadership experience, close friendships, and a network of professors, alumni, and peers who genuinely wanted to see me succeed. Those experiences taught me just as much as my classes did. Moreover, I learned how to plan events, network with others, navigate etiquette dinners, and other professional skills without worry about being judged. I felt like everyone was learning alongside me so I could do my best to try to grow along with them.

What do you do?

I currently work as an Audit Intern at KPMG for Summer 2026, where I help support audit engagements by reviewing financial information and testing transactions to make sure everything is accurate and follows accounting standards. Once my internship is complete, I intend to finish my Master's in Accountancy.

What has Saunders best helped me to reach my career success?

Saunders helped me discover opportunities I never would have found on my own. Whether it was internships, networking events, leadership, or mentorship from faculty, each experience helped me build confidence and prepared me for the next step in my career. Looking back, those opportunities made a huge difference in helping me feel ready to enter the workforce. Most importantly, I learned how to talk with others and skillfully navigate through interviews, which gave me an advantage while starting my career.

What should current students know about Saunders?

Say yes to opportunities, even if they feel a little intimidating at first. Join clubs, go to networking events, get to know your professors, and don't be afraid to step into leadership roles. Some of my most valuable experiences came from simply getting involved, and those experiences ended up shaping both my college career and where I'm headed next. Academics aren’t the only thing that matter, so make sure you make the most of your college experience. I learned the most outside of the classroom, and I grew the fastest while working alongside my friends so take advantage of the chance to try new experiences.
