Why did you decide to attend Saunders College of Business at RIT?
I decided to attend Saunders College of Business at RIT after I moved to the U.S. At first, I started working at the RIT Inn, and that experience helped me discover my interest in hospitality. Back in Turkey, I was a history teacher, but working in a hotel environment made me realize how much I enjoy working with people and being part of a service-focused industry.
After researching different programs, I saw that RIT has a strong reputation in hospitality and tourism management. That’s why I chose Saunders to build a career in this field and gain both practical and academic experienc
In what ways has Saunders/RIT prepared you for the job market?
Saunders has prepared me for the job market by giving me both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Through my courses, I’ve developed a strong understanding of customer service expectations, hotel operations, different service styles, and property types.
At the same time, I’ve been able to apply what I learn directly in my current role in hospitality sales. This combination of learning and real-world experience has helped me feel more confident and prepared for my career.
What do you feel is the most distinctive advantage gained from your Saunders experience?
The most distinctive advantage of my Saunders experience is the balance between practical learning and real-world exposure. Saunders not only teaches the academic side of business but also helps students connect what they learn to the industry. Through events, conferences, and faculty support, I’ve been able to better understand how the industry works. This experience has helped me clarify my career goals and feel more confident about my future.
What do you do?
I currently work at DelMonte Hotel Group as a Business Transient Account Manager. I manage corporate accounts, negotiate rates, and focus on generating new business opportunities. I also prepare monthly reports to track account performance and support business decisions, while working closely with internal teams to ensure excellent service delivery.

Through my courses and experiences, I’ve gained knowledge in customer service, hospitality operations, and sales, while also improving my communication and problem-solving skills. The leadership certificate program and other learning opportunities have also helped me grow professionally and develop the soft skills that are essential in the hospitality industry.
What should current students know about Saunders?
My advice to current students is to take full advantage of all the opportunities Saunders offers.
Attend as many events, conferences, and networking opportunities as possible. These experiences are extremely valuable for understanding the industry and building connections.Also, don’t give up when things get challenging. Stay consistent, keep improving yourself, and make use of all the resources available ,these will make a big difference in your career.
