Abstract:
The main purpose of this talk is to outline the origins of the ongoing explosion of interest, attention, and resources devoted to Big Data and Data Analytics. The examples will be provided and discussed differentiating Big Data from more traditional data sources and depositories. Special emphasis will be placed on the evolution of a skill set needed for professionals in the fields of Data Science and Data Analytics with a proposed framework that is suited to address the key knowledge areas required. The important role of Data Engineering skills in areas of data acquisition, preparation, and management, before, during, and after the actual analysis will be discussed.
Short Bio: Dr. Boris Jukić is a Professor of Operations and Information Systems and Director of the MS in Applied Data Science program at Clarkson University. In addition to leading the program, he teaches courses in Database Modeling, Design, and Management as well as Data Warehousing. His research interests include the techniques for unstructured data processing, application of data management and presentation strategies in e-business and e-commerce as well as IT architecture and its impact on organizations' measurements of success. He is a PhD graduate of the University of Texas at Austin.
