Advanced Polymer and Composites Lab

The Advanced Polymers and Composites Lab is an academic teaching space for the department of Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Technology's plastics and composites courses, as well as a research space for advanced polymer materials research. Fiber reinforcement composites manufacturing capabilities include a wide selection of resin and reinforcements and specialized equipment for composites layup and vacuum bagging, resin infusion and filament winding. Materials development capabilities includes items necessary to support polymer synthesis efforts including a wide variety of monomers, reagents and specialized glassware as well as a fume hood, rotary evaporator, vacuum pumps, stop plates and multiple ovens. Polymer characterization capabilities in the laboratory include dilute solution viscosity, Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) and melt flow index. The core equipment in this lab include:

• Morgan Press
• Aleph Objects Lulzbot TAZ 3D Printers
• VWR Refrigerator
