RIT IEEE EDS Event: Celebrating 70th Birthday of Silicon Solar Cell On April 25, 1054, Bell Labs in Murray Hill, New Jersey announced the invention of silicon solar cell. They demonstrated their solar panel by using it to power a small toy Ferris wheel and a solar powered radio transmitter. The New York Times on April 26, 1954 wrote that the silicon solar cell “may mark the beginning of a new era, leading eventually to the realization of one of mankind’s most cherished dreams–the harnessing of the almost limitless energy of the sun for the uses of civilization.” We propose to display a Poster celebrating the 70th birthday of the solar cell, with some demonstrations of solar cells gadgets.
