Everyone has a story to share. The RIT Archives has partnered with Multidisciplinary Senior Design (MSD) students from the Kate Gleason College of Engineering to launch its flagship StoryBooth! The RIT Archives is vehemently committed to making accessible diverse histories and lifting up untold, non-traditional stories and narratives. In Fall 2022, the RIT Archives StoryBooth initiative was created to invite members of the RIT community to share their knowledge, memories, and experiences for RIT’s historical record in order to ensure that diverse expressions are represented in our collections for generations to come. Starting in Spring 2023, RIT Archives staff began collaborating with engineering students and faculty to create the first mobile recording platform for the StoryBooth initiative. During this interactive exhibit, RIT community members will be invited into the new StoryBooth platform to record audio and/or video responses to Imagine RIT themed prompts. We want to hear all about your favorite exhibits and activities from the day, what you think Imagine RIT means to the greater Rochester area, and if you’re a repeat visitor, why Imagine RIT keeps you coming back! Engineering students from the MSD team and RIT Archives staff will also be on hand to discuss their process for designing, fabricating, and testing the new StoryBooth platform. Following the event, the collected recordings will be preserved and made accessible to the public on the RIT Archives Oral History Web Portal: https://oralhistory.rit.edu/.
