For years, Rochester Institute of Technology students have been able to take music lessons. But now, they can also learn more about the music industry by taking a class about artist management, recording, production, and marketing.

RIT is teaming up with the nonprofit online learning platform edX to create a universal pathway to credit, making it easier and less expensive for people to earn a master’s degree. With this new model, RIT is the first university to enable edX learners to apply any of the 63 MicroMasters programs toward a Master of Science—specifically, RIT’s customizable professional studies master’s degree program.

School of Individualized Study student Harrison Canning and his business partner, Colin Fausnaught, a 2019 software engineering graduate from RIT, formed the BCI Guys, which stands for brain-computer interface technology. They recently launched an online educational series to lower the barrier of entry and inspire others to join the field.

NTID has received approval from the New York State Education Department for a bachelor’s degree program in community development and inclusive leadership. The new program will admit its first students in fall 2022

The Innovative Maker and Learning Complex will be a building like no other on the RIT campus, and an alumnus who is helping make it possible wants RIT students to give it a name to remember. A contest to name the building is for current RIT undergraduate and graduate students in good standing. Deadline for submission is March 13. Voting will begin March 18.

NTID has announced the appointment of Marlene Mata as a new member of the college’s National Advisory Group. Members of the NTID National Advisory Group, whose appointments are approved by the U.S. Department of Education, advise the NTID president in developing and carrying out policies governing the operation and direction of the college.

Kyle DeFord has become one of the stars of the HBO Max show STYLISH with Jenna Lyons. But it didn’t happen overnight. Graduating in 2008 in the middle of a recession, DeFord took a position at J. Crew at Eastview Mall. After several years working locally, he was hired as a recruiting coordinator in New York City, which became a pathway for the work he is doing today.

After careful consideration, we have made the decision to move our alert level on campus from Orange to Yellow, meaning that the prevalence of the virus on campus remains a moderate risk. While this changes our alert level closer to where we all would like to be, we must continue to be extremely vigilant. We must not let our guard down.
