Rochester Institute of Technology students and faculty will team with other Rochester-area game developing enthusiasts for a weekend of gaming innovation. RIT is playing host to a Global Game Jam this weekend. It is one of 173 identical events that are taking place simultaneously around the world.
Game Jams are community events that seek individuals who are interested in game development and gather them in an effort to inject innovative ideas into the gaming industry. The Global Game Jam takes the collaborative nature of these events a step further. It allows participants to work concurrently with developers around the globe. Event organizers select a theme that each team must incorporate into their game, which needs to be developed within a 48-hour period.
Global Game Jam officially begins at 5 p.m. Jan. 28 and concludes at 6 p.m. Jan. 30 in RIT’s B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences. The event is hosted by the college’s Department of Interactive Games and Media and will take place in its Game Design and Development Lab (room 2025).
