‘What Drives Print Global?’ is Theme of RIT’s Gravure Day March 31
Experts discuss standards, gravure process and opportunities for students

Rochester Institute of Technology’s internationally recognized School of Print Media will celebrate Gravure Day Thursday, March 31, to promote the understanding of the gravure process and help students explore opportunities in gravure industries. This year’s theme is What Drives Print Global?
Among the day’s highlights will be presentations from experts in the gravure printing industry. Events go from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Gannett Hall, Neblette Conference Room, on the RIT campus. All events are free and open to the public.
The following is a rundown of the day’s agenda and featured speakers:
8:30–8:45 a.m.–Welcome by Patricia Sorce, administrative chair of RIT’s School of Print Media
8:45–9 a.m.–“Gravure at RIT Update,” presented by Robert Chung, Gravure Research Professor at RIT
9–9:45 a.m.–“Graphic Arts Data Exchange Standards: The Motivation and Key Driver for Standards for the Printing and Publishing Industry,” presented by David McDowell, RIT visiting scholar and standards consultant
9:45–10:30 a.m.–“ISO Standards and Print Globalization,” presented by Elie Khoury, CEO, KEE Consultants and Alwan Colour Expertise
10:45–11:30 a.m.–“Standards in Consumer Facing Packaging—Enabling Efficiency and Globalization,” presented by Robert Eller, RIT visiting scholar
11:30–12:15 p.m.–“Gravure Education Foundation: What It Can Do For You,” Michael Green, vice president of North America sales, Flint Group
12:15–2 p.m.–Luncheon and door prizes giveaway, remarks from Frank Cost, interim dean of RIT’s College of Imaging Arts and Sciences
“Gravure printing process serves publications, packaging and specialty product markets,” says Chung, the Gravure Research Professor at RIT. “By bringing industry experts to campus, it gives RIT students the chance to interact with them directly. It also gives industry professionals a chance to learn about RIT’s print media curriculum.”
