New College of Imaging Arts and Sciences’ Website Wins ‘Best of Web’ Award

Two organizations recognize college’s website as innovative

The College of Imaging Arts and Sciences’ redesigned website was recognized by the Rochester Business Journal and Rochester Advertising Federation.

A simple redesign that began as a project to help prospective and current students has turned into an award-winning website.

Rochester Institute of Technology’s College of Imaging Arts and Sciences has been recognized by the Rochester Business Journal with a Best of the Web award. The college’s new website, RIT's College of Art and Design website, was chosen as best in the education category.

Also, the website won a gold ADDY for Interactive Media from the Rochester Advertising Federation.

“Our goal is to ensure that students have access to accurate information so they can make informed decisions,” says Lorraine Justice, dean of College of Imaging Arts and Sciences.

The website, designed by Dumbwaiter Design, focuses on helping students determine which discipline or major they wish to pursue. The “Pathfinder” function provides an overview of their program of interest, as well as a list of top careers and potential employers for their desired degree.

“I firmly believe there is often a disconnect between students’ desired area of study and their career aspirations,” says Lucas Barber, marketing communications manager for the college. “Through the creation of the Pathfinder we believe we have successfully simplified students’ decision making process.”

The website includes a virtual tour of the college’s facilities on the RIT campus, galleries of student and faculty work as well as a news and events calendar.

Every year the Rochester Business Journal recognizes Rochester’s best business websites — and for the first time this year, best use of social media — with Best of the Web awards.

The Rochester Advertising Federation’s ADDYs recognize excellence and creativity in the Rochester advertising industry.
