Researchers set record for number of grants funded

Six researchers were inducted into the PI Millionaires, a designation awarded to RIT researchers who have achieved funding of $1 million or more since 2000. They were honored last month at a reception hosted by Sponsored Research Services.

A record 353 Rochester Institute of Technology researchers secured funding for fiscal year 2012, serving as either principal or co-principal investigators on active research, an increase of 5 percent over the previous year.

“In a constrained funding environment, our investigators are working harder than ever as competition for research support intensifies,” said David Bond, director of Sponsored Research Services. The investigators’ efforts helped generate $43.7 million in research funding to RIT last year.

RIT also inducted six researchers inducted into the PI Millionaires, a designation awarded to RIT researchers who have achieved funding of $1 million or more since 2000.

This year’s inductees are:

• Denis Cormier, Kate Gleason College of Engineering
• Surendra Gupta, Kate Gleason College of Engineering
• Stephanie Ludi, B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences
• Sean Rommel, Kate Gleason College of Engineering
• Anahita Williamson, Golisano Institute for Sustainability

The inductees were honored last month at a reception hosted by Sponsored Research Services, which has recognized 73 PI Millionaire researchers since 2001.
