Rod Blumenau Quartet performs April 24

Performance by the Rod Blumenau Quartet with special guest Doug Stone

The Rod Blumenau Quartet will perform with special guest Doug Stone April 24 as part of the Performing Artists Concert Series.

The Rod Blumenau Quartet will play songs you know—in styles you don’t normally associate with them—for the final installment of the 2012–2013 Performing Artists Concert Series. Old Wine, New Bottles” is at 8 p.m. April 24 in Ingle Auditorium, Student Alumni Union at Rochester Institute of Technology.

The program will highlight the group’s unique jazz arranging skills and a performance called “Arrangements While U Wait.” The band will improvise on-the-spot renditions of music selected by the audience. The show celebrates Blumenau’s return to performing after a hand operation last fall and the release of the band’s latest CD, “Jazzography,” recorded live at RIT in March 2012.

Performing with Blumenau on piano will be longtime quartet members Brad Paxton on drums, Jeff Campbell on bass and Gabe Condon on guitar. Joining them for the first time will be Doug Stone, one of Rochester’s premier jazz saxophonists.

Tickets—$5 for students, $15 for faculty/staff/alumni and $20 for the general public—are available at Bytes on the Run in the Student Alumni Union, at the Gordon Field House and Activities Center box office, or at the door on concert night, if available. For Visa or Mastercard phone orders, call 585-475-5210 or 585-475-4121.
