An exuberant Happy New Year to the RIT community! My New Year’s resolution is to make 2012 a year of action (which I kicked off by skiing for the first time!), so it’s fitting that I am bringing back my Under the Hood blog series for the rest of this academic year. Thank you, my dearest fan club, for returning.
If you don’t know what I’m talking about, let’s recap. I’m now in my second year at RIT’s University News Services, having spent three years at the Democrat and Chronicle as a copy editor. Under the Hood goes behind the scenes of University News and offers a peek at how my life has changed since moving from the newsroom to public relations.
One of the top three perks of working at RIT versus the D&C is that I now get a lunch hour during the lunch hour, instead of during the middle of whatever crazy hours I was working. So, in the spirit of A Year of Action, once a week I’m taking that nugget of free time and enjoying the open skate at Ritter Arena with my coworker Susan Gawlowicz. The arena is open to the public roughly noon to 1:45 p.m. during the weekdays, and additional hours are available. So if you find yourself in a lunch-hour rut, why not hit the ice? Well, try to stay on your feet. Skate rentals are available, too. Be sure to check the website before you go for fees and schedule changes.
Welcome back, thanks for reading, and feel free to share what you like to do around campus on your lunch break.
