Two students honored for papers
Brittany Vanderhoof and Sara Rosborough, astrophysical sciences and technology Ph.D. students, were each awarded the Astronomical Society of New York’s 2022 Graduate Student Paper prize for 2022. Vanderhoof was recognized for her paper “The ALPINE-ALMA [C II] survey: Investigation of 10 galaxies at z ∼ 4.5 with [O II] and [C II] line emission - ISM properties and [O II]-SFR relation,” which describes a study of star formation and interstellar gas in very distant galaxies in the early stages of their growth. Rosborough received her award for “The kinematics and ionization structure of the extended Emission Line Region of QSO E1821+643,” a study of a vast region of ionized gas surrounding the host galaxy of one of the brightest quasars in the nearby universe. Both papers were recently published in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.
