Rewriting the language of glass art
Suzanne Peck, lecturer of glass, was featured in "New Glass Now," a group exhibition organized by the Corning Museum of Glass that features innovative works by artists and collectives around the world.
The show traveled to Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Renwick Gallery (Oct. 21, 2021-March 6, 2022) and the Toyama Glass Art Museum in Japan (July 16-Oct. 16, 2022).
Peck’s collaborative work with Karen Donnellan ’11 MFA (glass) is a progressive poster series, “Exhale with Vigor (Blow Harder),” which encourages inclusion and more representation in the hot shop. Together, the pair rewrote the language of glass art with words that push further into the absurd, humorous and queer. Two of their posters, “Alternative Lexicons for the Hotshop” and “Jills” were in the exhibition.
Peck and Donnellan delivered an artist talk hosted by the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Renwick Gallery about their work.
"New Glass Now" originated with a 2019 exhibition curated by a panel of thinkers, makers and writers who chose 100 artworks out of 4,000 submissions for inclusion in the show and the Corning Museum's collection.
