Student Hall for Exploration and Development
On Friday, April 30, 2021, RIT announced the official name for the facility currently under construction known as the Innovative Maker Learning Complex (IMLC). The IMLC will now and forever be known as the Student Hall for Exploration and Development, or simply "the SHED."
This name was selected in a student contest that received 260 submissions and received more than 2,000 student votes. The idea for the contest was seeded by RIT Trustee and alum Austin McChord whose record $50 million gift to RIT in 2017 helped fund the complex. Jonathan Dharmadi, a third-year new media design student from Elmhurst, NY devised the winning name.
