Finance Student Moderates Conversation with Fed Reserve Bank of NY President

Owen Cavo ‘26 (finance, MIS) moderated a Conversation with Federal Reserve Bank of NY President/CEO John C. Williams at RIT, September 29, 2025. Students were invited to have lunch with President Williams and ask him questions. Saunders College Dean Jacquie Mozrall asked Owen to moderate the public conversation that followed.

Owen’s preparation was thorough. “I watched several of President Williams’s past interviews, brushed up on recent monetary policy developments, and caught up on current economic news. From there, I drafted questions that I thought would be both relevant and engaging. I met with a few macroeconomics professors to review and refine my list, then shared it with a couple of finance professors for additional input. After incorporating their feedback, I sent the questions to the Federal Reserve team, who suggested a few final edits before I finalized them.”

Owen recalls, “The most rewarding part of interviewing President Williams was having the chance to ask my own questions directly to someone who plays such a central role in shaping U.S. economic policy. It’s rare to hear insights straight from the source — someone with access to the full picture and the responsibility of making decisions that affect the entire economy. The experience helped me better appreciate how thoughtful and complex policy-making really is, and it was a unique opportunity to learn from one of the top voices in the field.”
