Student organizations can help you develop leadership skills, provide networking opportunities, enhance education outside of the classroom, and strengthen the communication between faculty, staff, and students. Listed below are the various College of Computing-affiliated student organizations in which you may want to get involved.

The mission of the Computer Science Community (CSC) is to equip students with strong technical foundations, interview preparation, and career development resources, while fostering a supportive  community to collaborate on projects and enjoy the journey together.

Founded in 1976, Computer Science House (CSH) is one of the oldest and most active Special Interest Houses at RIT. CSH is a living-learning community for RIT students interested in computing and other related fields. CSH offers a broad range of opportunities for students to learn outside of classes and to find people just like them.

Computing Organization of Multicultural Students (COMS) at RIT is an all-inclusive organization committed to building a supportive community that celebrates the talent of underrepresented students in computing and technology. COMS offers community engagement, mental health awareness, leadership and mentorship opportunities.

The RIT Electric Vehicle Team (EVT) is a student run organization started in 2012 dedicated to promoting the viability of electric vehicles through practical design of electric motorbikes. The team aims to educate people on the principles of electric vehicle design by engaging students in challenging and rewarding projects that cover a wide variety of academic disciplines.

Electronic Gaming Society (EGS) is a club that focus on giving students a place to socialize and play video games. We meet once a week and set up a few games for people stop by and play to a bit.

The Google Developer Student Club at RIT aligns closely with GCCIS academic programs by creating an applied learning environment where students can deepen their technical skills outside the classroom. Our workshops, technical events, and project-based initiatives reinforce core concepts taught in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computing & Information Technologies, Human-Centered Computing, Data Science, and Game Design & Development. Students gain experience with Google developer tools, cloud technologies, UX/UI principles, and collaborative software development practices that mirror industry workflows. By supporting interdisciplinary teamwork and real-world problem-solving, including participation in the Google Solution Challenge, GDSC enhances the experiential learning opportunities central to GCCIS programs.

INIT RIT is a chapter of INIT, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to developing the next generation of tech leaders. We provide hands-on workshops for experiential learning and support career development through resources like resume reviews and interview preparation. By partnering with leading employers such as Google, Microsoft, and Meta, we connect our members with valuable job and internship opportunities.

NextHop is RIT's Networking and Systems Administration club. We host build-it nights where we talk about pieces of networking technology and give students applied experience working with the things they are learning. NextHop gives students the space to work on projects and learn in a hands-on, collaborative environment and offers its members resources such as servers and networking equipment to help them develop their projects. NextHop also hosts NSIC, a Networking and Systems Infrastructure competition where teams compete to complete scenarios that professional IT teams would have to solve. Competitors are connected with company sponsors who are looking to hire talent.

The Queer in STEM Club at RIT (QSTEM) provides a welcoming community for queer students and allies in STEM majors, helps reach out to other STEM groups and allies, and provides resources for queer students in STEM. The club meets every other Monday with small, fun activities and events.

RIT AI Club connects students across disciplines to explore, discuss, and build in the field of artificial intelligence. We cover everything from the latest research and industry trends to hands-on projects and technical deep-dives — fostering a community where curiosity and ambition meet.

RIT Game Developers Club (RGDC) provides an open, creative, learning environment for RIT students passionate about game development. We aim to bring students across disciplines into one welcoming space by learning together, learning from each other, and creating together. To do this we offer presentations on game development, playtesting nights, and weekend-long game jams.

RITGraph is RIT's computer graphics club. It focuses on weekly interactive graphics demos and talks. We encourage students to engage with topics in 3D computer graphics such as rendering techniques like raytracing, parallel processing with shaders, visualization of fractals, and more. RITGraph is also an official SIGGRAPH student chapter, and we raise money to fund student trips to SIGGRAPH every year.

RITSEC is a cybersecurity student club that focuses on providing students education, leadership, and competition opportunities. We run weekly education and research presentations, interest groups for specific avenues of cybersecurity, provide students with certifications, and host competitions for members of the RIT and national communities.

The Society of Software Engineers (SSE) at RIT is an academic organization providing mentoring and community to students in the College of Computing. The SSE fosters a vibrant community of tech enthusiasts, bridging academia with industry partnerships from giants like Microsoft to Apple, ensuring our members thrive in their future careers.

The User Experience (UX) Club @ RIT is a collaborative community that explores the intersection of design, research, and technology. We seek to inform students of industry standard practices and ideologies of a User Experience Designer for them to better understand the profession and to get a feel for it. To see if they'd want to pursue a career in it in the future.

Women in Computing at the Rochester Institute of Technology (WiC) is an all-inclusive organization that provides an interdisciplinary networking forum for students, faculty, staff, and alumni involved in the field of computing at RIT, regardless of gender, race or sex. WiC at RIT also encourages the success of women and all gender minorities through community outreach, professional development, leadership, mentorship, and technical development opportunities.

The RIT Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS) chapter is a community for those interested in cybersecurity to grow through information talks, industry guest speakers, social events, technical workshops, and helpful conversations. We take our members to the Rochester Security Summit and the annual WiCyS Conference. Emphasizing "Security Through Community", WiCyS creates a space where people can grow their network and learn from each other in an environment where new isn't intimidating.

College of Computing-affiliated clubs and organizations are student groups that have a formal connection to the RIT Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences. To become an affiliated organization, groups must apply here. You can view the full affiliation policy, including the requirements here. 

As affiliates, clubs/orgs can join the College of Computing Student Organization Council (CSOC), more details can be found below. 

Events to Get Involved

Meet our clubs and organizations at the FirstByte Club Fair at the beginning of each fall and spring semester. There you’ll get to know the student groups and find people who share your interests.

You can get more involved in the college with FirstByte, the College of Computing’s first-year experience program, which hosts events that are open to everyone in the RIT community. These events, like Donut Days and Snack & Study sessions, happen year-round and vary in topics and activities.

College of Computing Student Organization Council (CSOC)

The College of Computing Student Organization Council (CSOC) is a representative body of students from computing-affiliated clubs and student organizations. The council facilitates collaboration between clubs, coordinates college-wide events, and serves as a formal liaison between students and the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences (GCCIS) leadership. 

CSOC members receive advance invitations and priority to participate in and recruit members at college-wide events, a voting seat on the CSOC, and a dedicated bulletin board space to advertise club materials. Additional benefits include specialized GCCIS computer lab privileges, inclusion in the exclusive events newsletter, and access to private events with college leadership and the dean.

To apply, groups must complete an initial application that will be reviewed by the Dean’s Office, in consultation with CSOC.
