RIT Students Embark on a Croatian Adventure, Earning a Summer Minor in Business Administration

RIT Croatia offers interesting summer study abroad programs for students from other RIT campuses, fostering academic growth and personal and professional development.

Are you an RIT student from Rochester, Dubai, or Kosovo campuses? RIT Croatia has developed several interesting, short, summer study abroad programs that allow students from other RIT campuses to expand their academic horizons, and grow personally and professionally. One of them is the Business Administration Minor, ideal for engineering, engineering technology, computing, or art and design students interested in a business minor. This summer, RIT Croatia welcomed ten students from Rochester that have opted to broaden their knowledge and gain valuable skills in this area in 6 weeks of lectures at the RIT Croatia Zagreb campus.

Immersive learning experience: a perfect fit for RIT's diverse student body

In the first block (May 15 to June 23) students were taking Seminar in Finance – Blockchain with Dr. Peter Schmidt and Global Business Environment with Dr. Vanja Vejzagić. In the second block that is currently taking place, students are taking Operations Management with Dr. Kristina Šorić and Business Ethics with Dr. Silvija Vig. A fifth course, called Organizational Behavior, spans the entire summer and is delivered online by a Rochester faculty. Completing a minor in a different field is a great opportunity for students to broaden their knowledge and horizons, and develop an important set of skills that will help them succeed in a rapidly changing global society. Ethan, a Mechanical Engineering student from RIT, shared his impressions on the program: „The program is really interesting. It's a nice switch because most of us are engineering students so it's nice to learn about something new“.

More than a minor: Exploring Croatia's culture and European wonders

As part of this program, students had one week’s break for independent sightseeing and traveling. The program is also a fantastic opportunity to experience Croatia's vibrant culture and explore nearby European countries. While learning in a more relaxed atmosphere, students are also participating in organized activities and trips that give them a chance to feel the local culture and meet local people, therefore broadening their global understanding – valuable experiences for their personal and professional uplifting.

Ethan shared his thoughts about Zagreb: „I really like the area. It's nice to have public transportation, the landscape is a lot different. The culture is a lot better – it's a lot more slow-paced compared to America. I like the people here, too. Everyone has been super nice and helpful, giving us many tips about what we have to see and where to go. Going out on the weekend was really fun also. The nightlife here is great!“

Bringing diversity to RIT's global campuses

When students go to other campuses in foreign countries for studying abroad, they bring a unique blend of perspectives, traditions, and experiences, which contribute to the enrichment of both their host college community and their personal growth. Studying abroad fosters cultural diversity, which is one of the most important elements of shaping young individuals at RIT global campuses.

This diversity is creating an environment where students can learn from one another's unique perspectives. Interactions between students of diverse cultural backgrounds encourage the exchange of ideas and foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of different worldviews. Moreover, studying abroad opens doors to cross-cultural friendships and meaningful connections.

With that being said, we are thrilled to have international students at our Croatian campus but also support our students to experience study abroad options at other campuses. This results in both personal and professional growth but also makes memories for a lifetime.
