The School of Media Sciences strives to be on the leading edge of graphic communications and gives students the opportunity to address real-world problems within the industry. Students graduate with unsurpassed skills in all areas that encompass graphic communications, from design production to digital content management to typography. Students will learn how to design, distribute, and manage content to reach audiences on various platforms. Our diverse curriculums might see students design customized marketing communications to increase advertising revenues, create new ink formulas for eye-popping retail displays, or implement social media plans for businesses. It’s all done in an ambitious environment, too. The STEM-based Master of Science degree in Print Media offered by the School of Media Sciences offers students seeking an advanced degree the opportunity to join a community of learners and researchers in a dynamic field with robust career opportunities. This thesis-based program involves three semesters of coursework, followed by thesis work where students work together with research professors in world-class facilities. Recent thesis topics have included technology adoption, quality control, instrument and metric analysis, management topics, and process capabilities in areas such as digital printing, textile printing, color measurement, packaging and publishing as well as gravure, flexographic and lithographic printing technologies. Resulting thesis work is published and often presented at academic conferences.
Students successfully completing the MS in Print Media find themselves well prepared for study at the doctoral level as well as positioned to work at management-level positions in industry.
The media arts and technology minor provides students with a five-course sampling of the media arts and technology major. Most students begin with the Design Production (MAAT-383) course and customize their selection of courses from diverse offerings related to media production, media architecture, media strategy, and media management.
