iSchool faculty and students organize, present at 2025 ACM Computers and Accessibility (ASSETS) Conference

RIT Faculty and Students at the 27th annual ASSETS conference in Denver, Colorado

Five School of Information faculty members and students played key roles in organizing the 27th International ACM SIGACCESS Conference on Computers and Accessibility (ASSETS) held between October 26th and October 29th in Denver, Colorado. The ASSETS conference is the premier forum for presenting research on the design, evaluation, use, and education related to computing for people with disabilities and older adults. Jenny Lay-Flurrie, Chief Accessibility Office at Microsoft gave the keynote presentation.

Kristen Shinohara, associate professor and Graduate Program Director in the iSchool, served as General Co-Chair. Roshan Peiris, assistant professor in the iSchool, was the Posters and Demos Co-Chair. Paul Ezeamii, a PhD Student focused on Accessibility Research at RIT, was the Web Co-Chair. Garreth Tigwell, assistant professor for the iSchool, was the conference’s Publicity Chair. Vrunda Mange, a master’s student in Human-Computer Interaction at RIT, assisted as a student volunteer. Additionally, Matt Huenerfauth, the Dean of the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, is the Chair of SIGACCESS, the sponsoring ACM SIG of the conference.

Three full papers and four posters featuring iSchool research were presented at the conference. The full papers presented at the conference featured work by RIT faculty and students analyzing the differences in custom captions between North American and South Korean deaf and hard of hearing users, explored accessible color design for individuals with color vision deficiency, and reviewed the barriers doctoral students with ADHD face, reflecting the depth and breadth of RIT’s iSchool scholarship.
