NTID Video Digitization, Captioning, Voicing for Classes

NTID faculty: If you need a video (usually NTID/RIT produced) digitized for class that is not available through streaming services or DVDs, you can request that service via NTID Engineering Services department. Please email the ntidvideodropbox@rit.edu address to arrange the delivery of any media to be digitized. You can also ask these services for voice interpretation and captioning. You may be asked to provide a transcript to make the voicing process more accurate and easier for the interpreters.

Captioning video details in Panopto are available. NTID provides captioning instructions as well. Find it under the Panopto Dem Videos and Step-by-Step Instructions.

Captioning—The turnaround time for professional captioning is about one week, so please plan accordingly. Due to the turnaround time, professional captioning is unsuitable for discussion-based activities. Instead, automatically generated speech recognition (ASR) or manually typed captions should be used.

Additionally, videos need a voice track to be captioned by our vendor (the vendor cannot translate ASL into English). After you have your voiced video, you can request professional captioning.

Instructors can request professional captions for credit-bearing course videos stored in Panopto. Make sure you have finalized all of your edits before requesting captioning. Once captions are requested, you cannot edit the video using the Panopto editor until the captions are returned. The video is viewable, while professional captions are in progress.

Please review the captioning guidelines for instructors and students. Instructions for captioning course videos stored in Panopto are included.
