RIT Libraries Generative AI Guidance
Generative AI (GenAI) is technology that is rapidly changing every day. All information found on this page is subject to change with technological advances.
Generative AI Tools
RIT subscribes to a few GenAI tools for use by students, staff and faculty. Visit the RIT ITS website for more information. Note that GenAI tools are not search engines and it is not recommended they be used to discover reliable, accurate and timely practical or scholarly information. Work with an RIT librarian to learn more about tools and resources designed for research purposes.
RIT Libraries does not subscribe to any GenAI tools or services, nor do we offer technical support for these tools. Please contact ITS for assistance with these tools.
Some library databases and platforms provide integrated GenAI and natural language processing to improve the user experience. Many vendors are developing their own tools. The capabilities and quality will vary. Always verify the responses given.
If you have questions about the use of GenAI tools for scholarly research or how our subscription databases and platforms may be using GenAI, send your questions to libraryhelp@rit.edu or contact your college librarian.
Do Not Upload Library Resources
Repurposing content from library databases is not allowed. The library has contractual agreements with our vendors which usually includes not uploading library sourced content into third party systems. Please respect the rights of content creators and content distributors.
GenAI Literacy Framework
The RIT Libraries AI Literacy Instruction Team has developed a framework for teaching students how to use generative AI tools as part of the research process. Please let us know if you have any questions or if you would like a librarian to join your class by emailing libraryhelp@rit.edu
