Hey! My name is Elena Meckel, and I am an ASL Interpreting major with a minor in Psychology. I studied abroad for the first time in Fermo, Italy, in July 2024. I lived in a nunnery for a month and learned about Italian culture as well as Italian Deaf culture. While in Italy, I took classes in spoken Italian, LIS (Italian Sign Language), and theater performance. I had the opportunity to study abroad again in Vietnam for two weeks in June of 2025. I learned about the history and culture of Vietnam while traveling through the whole country. Both of my experiences allowed me to learn and grow as an individual in ways I would not have if I hadn’t studied abroad.
