Study Abroad For SOIS Majors
All majors at RIT can study abroad, and it's an ideal opportunity for you to gain a new perspective on your major, understand the global reach of your field of study, and develop cross-cultural skills that will prepare you for your career.
Planning early, discussing your plans with your academic advisor, and working with a study abroad advisor to find a good program fit will set you on the path to having a memorable experience while staying on track to graduation.
Tips
There is a wide variety of unique coursework abroad, which means you will need to spend some time narrowing down your program choices. Thinking about your priorities in choosing a program (level of cultural immersion, program cost, language of instruction and location) will help you settle on a good program fit. A study abroad advisor can help you determine your priorities.

If you’re interested in one of the programs, login to the Compass (application database), click on the ‘Search Programs’ tab, and type in the program name in the keyword box to learn more and start an application.
SCB Study Abroad Pathway
Developed by SCB to help students in each major identify an ideal time to study abroad. If the suggested time frame for your major doesn’t work for you, work with your academic and study abroad advisors to determine an alternative time frame.
Faculty-Led Programs
RIT offers faculty-led study abroad programs designed, developed, and led by RIT faculty. The travel portion of these programs are usually shorter in length (between one to five weeks), taking place over summer, winter break, or spring break.

Study Abroad Scholarships for SOIS
RIT Education Abroad Travel Grant
Open to students going on RIT Global Campus, exchange, or faculty-led programs. You will be able to “opt-in” for this scholarship consideration as part of your RIT study abroad application. Awards $500-$1,000.
Honors Travel Grant
RIT Honors students are eligible for a $500 travel grant to study abroad.

CBYX Young Professionals
German language study and internship in your field in Germany.
Fulbright Canada-Mitacs Globalink Program
Funding for a 10-12 week summer internship for U.S. students to work on research projects in Canada in the areas of science, engineering, math, and social sciences.
DAAD RISE
Funding for 3-month STEM summer research internship program in Germany.
Fulbright Fellowship (U.S. Student Program)
Funding for upcoming or recent graduates to go to grad school or complete an independent research project abroad.
