All majors at RIT can study abroad, and it's an ideal opportunity for you to gain a new perspective on your major, understand the global reach of your field of study, and develop cross-cultural skills that will prepare you for your career.
Planning early, discussing your plans with your academic advisor, and working with a study abroad advisor to find a good program fit will set you on the path to having a memorable experience while staying on track to graduation.
Tips
- You’ll find strong engineering coursework in England, Ireland, Australia and at RIT Dubai – however, you are not limited to these locations!
- If you're looking to take engineering tech courses abroad, a semester program will have more course options versus summer programs. However, summer programs are good for taking general education or elective credits abroad.
- It’s important for CET students to start early when planning to study abroad to have the most flexibility in finding engineering-specific coursework abroad. But remember that if you’re late to the game, you may still have options, and a study abroad advisor can help you find a program that may work for you.
- Remember, you don’t have to limit yourself to taking engineering coursework abroad! Saving a few minor, immersion or general education electives to take overseas is a great way to fit in a study abroad experience while giving you more flexibility with program options, locations, and length of time abroad.
- RIT Faculty-Led programs are a good way to fit in a shorter travel experience.
Faculty-Led Programs
RIT offers faculty-led study abroad programs designed, developed, and led by RIT faculty. The travel portion of these programs are usually shorter in length (between one to five weeks), taking place over summer, winter break, or spring break. Most faculty-led programs are open to students of all majors, and students may be able to use credits towards free electives, perspectives, gen ed electives or towards certain minors/immersions.

Study Abroad Scholarships for CET Majors
RIT Education Abroad Travel Grant
Open to students going on RIT Global Campus, exchange, or faculty-led programs. All students applying for one of these types of programs will be automatically considered for this funding. No separate scholarship application is required. Awards $500-$1,000. Awards are based on financial need as determined by your FAFSA on file and RIT Financial Aid.
Honors Travel Grant
RIT Honors students are eligible for a $500 travel grant to study abroad. RIT Honors Travel Grant form

Fulbright Canada-Mitacs Globalink Program
Funding for a 10-12 week summer internship for U.S. students to work on research projects in Canada in the areas of science, engineering, math, and social sciences.
DAAD RISE
Funding for 3-month STEM summer research internship program in Germany.
Amgen Scholars Program
Funding for a summer research experience in Japan, China or Singapore for engineering or science majors.
Fulbright Fellowship (U.S. Student Program)
Funding for upcoming or recent graduates to complete an independent art or creative project abroad.
