- Experience first-hand why the Mediterranean diet is considered one of the healthiest in the world in the gastronomic capital of Greece, Thessaloniki.
- Hands-on courses include cooking, sampling Greek products, olive oil tastings, visits to markets, honey producers, wineries, farms, and tavernas.
- Thessaloniki is over 2,500 years old and is the second-largest city in Greece. A blend of ancient, Byzantine, and modern worlds, it boasts a stunning seaport, exquisite cuisine, breathtaking vistas, and vibrant nightlife.

Scholarship funding is available for this program.
- All RIT students participating in the program will receive a $2,000 scholarship towards program costs.
- Up to four RIT students will be awarded a fully funded fellowship to participate in Perrotis summer programs (Mediterranean Diet in Greece or Sea, Sky & Soil) (this would be awarded in place of the $2,000 scholarship). The fully funded fellowship means there will be NO tuition or program fee, just out-of-pocket costs. Students will be selected based on high financial need (as determined by the FAFSA and the RIT Financial Aid office), academic merit, and motivation, as assessed through essay responses included in the Compass application.
Based at Perrotis College (American Farm School) in Greece, the program offers a comprehensive understanding of the Mediterranean Diet's components, including its nutritional composition, health benefits, history, mythology, cultural food patterns, food-related traditions, and lifestyle factors that influence health.
In addition to the Mediterranean Diet course, you will take a Greek Culture course, where you will explore the local history, language, and culture, including the region's legacy as the first democratic republic, the role of Greek Gods and mythology, and the contributions of famous Greek philosophers, playwrights, and scientists. All courses are taught in English.
Students take two courses for a total of six credits:
• Greek Cultural Experience - 3 credits (counts as RIT course: GEPR 150 Social OR Global GE Perspective -OR- Free or Program Elective)
• Mediterranean Diet in Greece - 3 credits (counts as RIT course: GEPR 150 Social OR Global GE Perspective -OR- Free or Program Elective)
Local excursions will enhance your in-class learning. Trips include a one-day sailing trip around the turquoise waters of Halkidiki, a hiking trip to Mount Olympus, home to the Greek gods, an island cruise to the beautiful islands of Skiathos, Skopelos, and Alonissos, and city tours that explore the richness of Thessaloniki and its history. You will also enjoy plenty of free time for independent travel.
Students live with other study abroad students in sustainably built suite-style apartments with two bedrooms, a living room, and two bathrooms. Each room has a balcony or terrace. Includes free wifi, laundry facilities, a snack bar, dining hall/cafeteria, and athletic facilities.
