RIT Appoints Enid Cardinal as Senior Sustainability Adviser

Rochester Institute of Technology announces the appointment of Enid Cardinal as senior sustainability adviser to RIT President Bill Destler. Cardinal, a LEED-accredited professional with a background in socially responsible investing and environmental policy, will assume her new role in July.

“Enid will be responsible for developing, implementing, and administering policies and programs that will help RIT become an international model for best practices in campus sustainability operations and programs,” says Destler. “Her focus will include climate neutrality and a reduction in greenhouse gases as outlined in the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment.”

“I am thrilled to be joining the RIT community,” states Cardinal. “Significant strides have already been made on campus related to academic programming, research, and the built environment. From President Destler to the student body, there is a genuine commitment to advancing sustainability at RIT.”

Cardinal is currently director of the Office of Sustainability at Illinois State University. She works to infuse a culture of sustainability at ISU that includes a reduction of office paper use, waste reduction and food scrap composting in dining services, installation of permeable parking surfaces, ride sharing, and an assessment of hand-drying options. Prior to ISU, she held positions as an independent consultant, social analyst, and a project controller.

A native of Baldwinsville, N.Y., Cardinal earned a master’s degree in environmental policy from Bard College and a bachelor’s degree in biology and history from Binghamton University.
