AI and Course Design @ RIT

The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) has developed and offered a number of faculty-focused programs to support the revision of courses at RIT. Through individual workshop sessions, and cohort-based programming, our team’s goal is to support faculty in navigating how the emergence of Generative AI (GenAI) may impact their course design and delivery through evidence-based teaching practices.

We are proud to again offer the AI Essentials for Educators course to all RIT faculty in both the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters. Last academic year, 125 of your faculty colleagues joined us in this hybrid course to examine strategies to address teaching in the age of AI. The course includes two synchronous, virtual sessions along with four online modules in a related myCourses course which can be completed independently. We will also offer an optional, mid-point session for anyone who wishes to deep-dive on RIT supported AI tools.

One of the main benefits of the course, cited by previous participants, is the ability to engage in cross-disciplinary conversations with colleagues. On the course evaluation survey which spanned the 2025-26 academic year, an average of 97% of participants agreed that the course felt like a valuable use of their time.

Does a full course feel like too much? The CTL is also hosting an AI and Course Design 1-hour virtual workshop, in collaboration with Provost Prabu David, on Tuesday, August 18 from 10-11 am. Provost David will discuss his perspective of the impact of AI in higher education. The CTL will share some of the resources from the AI Essentials course with the aim of supporting the development of an AI course syllabus policy statement.

Register to join us at one or both of these upcoming programs - we hope to see you there:
