Current position: co-founder and CEO of an early-stage startup, Opsmatic (opsmatic.com)

Career path: Stoneham’s latest venture, Opsmatic, aims at solving a problem he’s seen many times in his career.

“Operations is part of the business that gets treated as sort of an afterthought. When companies are busy releasing new software and updates, inconsistencies can occur in the infrastructure that can lead to crashes, slowdowns and lost business.”

“I’ve been feeling the pain for a long time in my previous startups and teams. My two co-founders and I felt there’s got to be a better way to do this, so we’re now working with a talented team to transform IT operations.”

Opsmatic, which was founded in March 2013, expects to introduce products this year.

Stoneham has extensive experience with both startups and tech industry giants.

He was recently CEO of Payvment, the top e-commerce platform on Facebook, from 2011 to 2013. The company was acquired by Intuit in 2013.

He headed Yahoo’s Communities business(Flickr, Answers, Groups, Delicious) from 2008 to 2011.

He founded and led Tangibility, a product innovation consultancy, from 1999 to 2008. Tangibility worked primarily with startups to scale or turnaround their businesses and also larger companies investing in new products to reinvent their business.

From 1995 to 1999, he played a key role in Kodak’s entry into consumer digital photography as leader of the team that created the Easyshare system and other digital products.

At Apple, he was “part of team that built a growing software business when the company didn’t believe it was a software company.”

On the Bay Area: “I moved to Silicon Valley to work for Apple in early 1995. I saw that’s where the future was going to be invented.”

Remembering RIT: “I was able to create a custom multidisciplinary program for my BFA, across the photo and design schools (with the help of the deans of each school). The fact that RIT has a mixture of photo/design/printing/engineering/etc. allowed me to get much more practical experience.”
