RIT Introduces Certificate Program in Material Science and Engineering

Insights into the rapidly growing field of materials are available through a newly introduced educational experience at Rochester Institute of Technology. The Center for Material Science and Engineering at RIT debuts a graduate-level advanced certificate program this fall.

Recently approved by the State of New York, the material science and engineering certificate program bridges these otherwise separate disciplines. Areas of material research incorporated into the program include fiber optics, microlithography, nanomaterials, plasma science and polymers.

The program requires completion of 24 quarter credit hours over a one- to three-year time frame. A student with an advanced certificate in material science and engineering can then acquire a master’s degree by completing an additional 21 quarter credit hours.

Registration is underway for classes beginning Monday, Sept. 5.

For more information on the advanced certificate program, contact KSV Santhanam, program director of RIT’s Center for Material Science and Engineering, at 585-475-2920, or visit the Web at www.science.rit.edu/CMSE.
