RIT Mini-Baja Team Captures 10th Place in Midwest Competition

Rochester Institute of Technology’s mini-Baja team captured 10th place overall among more than 100 challengers in its fourth and final collegiate design and driving competition of 2005, the Midwest Mini Baja, June 16-19, in Troy, Ohio.

In specific categories, RIT earned fifth place in acceleration, fifth and eighth places in hill climbing, sixth place in endurance laps, ninth place in the endurance race, and 12th place for maneuverability.

Earlier this month, RIT took 13th place overall among more than 120 competitors and top-ten finishes in the acceleration, endurance and presentation events in the Mini Baja 100 in Tinaja Hills, Ariz. Last month, RIT captured seventh and 15th places overall among 71 challengers in the Mini Baja East, hosted by RIT for the first time since 1982. The largest-ever Mini Baja East drew hundreds of spectators for competition in RIT’s Gordon Field House and Activities Center and at Hogback Hill Motocross track in Palmyra, Wayne County. RIT also competed in the Mini Baja Brazil in April.

RIT’s mini-Baja team is sponsored by the manufacturing and mechanical engineering technology/ packaging science department in the university’s College of Applied Science and Technology, the college of innovation. Mini-Baja competitions are sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers and Briggs & Stratton Corp.
