McAfee Inc. Security Expert and Author to Speak at RIT March 15

Senior vice president and co-author of best selling book Hacking Exposed to give lecture

George Kurtz, senior vice president at McAfee Inc. and co-author of the bestselling book Hacking Exposed: Network Security Secrets & Solutions, will give a free lecture at Rochester Institute of Technology at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, in the B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences auditorium on the RIT campus. The lecture is free and open to the public. A reception will immediately follow.

Kurtz’s lecture, titled “Threatscape 2007,” will focus on the latest security threats and trends. His lecture is part of the annual McAfee Day events at RIT. On Friday, March 16, RIT computing students will participate in the third annual computer security competition, “Build and Defend Your Digital Fortress.” A team of McAfee engineers will attempt to infiltrate computer networks built by RIT students. Teams of students will spend nearly 24 hours building and defending these networks from a set of simulated attacks posed by the McAfee security experts. This competition mirrors the real-life security threats students will encounter when entering the workforce.

“McAfee Day events at RIT will offer students an excellent opportunity to learn more about real-life security events,” says Kurtz. “They will learn more about the types of threats we see in industry today, the motivating drivers behind malware writers and how skill levels used in today’s threatscape have evolved.”

Kurtz is the senior vice president of McAfee’s enterprise business and is responsible for driving the company’s growth in the enterprise market segments. He is an internationally recognized security expert and frequent speaker at many of the major security conferences, including The Internet Security Conference (TISC), Computer Security Institute (CSI), NetSec, WebSec, and the American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS).
