RIT Photography Students Will Capture the Stunts of Freestyle Motocross Riders June 5

Aspiring photographers participate in Red Bull Illume Photography Workshop outside Syracuse

As Tommy Clowers and Jeff Tilton, two of the best freestyle motocross riders in the country, fly 40 feet into the air performing aerobatic stunts on their bikes, photography students from Rochester Institute of Technology will capture all the action.

Eight students from RIT’s School of Photographic Arts and Sciences have been selected to take part in the Red Bull Illume Photography Workshop on Tuesday, June 5, at EDGE MX, a freestyle motocross event, in Warners, N.Y., outside of Syracuse.

Throughout the daylong photo shoot, students will work with professional photographer Francois Portmann to shoot and edit their photos, stitching together various sequence shots. A panel of judges will select the best photo and the student photographer will be awarded a trip to Boston to attend the Northeast Illume Workshop.

Red Bull selected RIT for this workshop because of its reputation as having one of the best photography schools in the country and to give aspiring photography students a unique opportunity to work with some of the best sports athletes in motocross. This experience will help students build their portfolios in sports action photography.

MEDIA NOTE: The best photo opportunity will be from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. when Clowers and Tilton perform in the freestyle motocross jump events. The track is located at 6946 Winchell Road, Warners, N.Y.
