Student Creativity Unleashed in Imagine RIT Video Contest

Three student-produced videos promote May 7 festival

The Imagine RIT: Innovation and Creativity Festival is designed to showcase the innovative and creative nature of Rochester Institute of Technology students. Now, a key element of the annual festival’s marketing campaign does the same.

A team comprised of undergraduate and graduate students from RIT’s College of Imaging Arts and Sciences won a contest that challenged the RIT student body to create a Web video or a series of Web videos that promotes the festival. Kate McFadden (3D digital graphics/Fairport, N.Y.), Yi-An Chien (computer graphics design/Taipei, Taiwan), Anthony Castaneda (3D digital graphics/Fairfax, Va.),Yu-Hsin Chang (computer graphics design/Taipei, Taiwan) and Mark Davis (film and animation/Arlington Heights, Ill.) emerged as the winners.

“Nobody demonstrates the creativity that exists on the RIT campus better than our faculty and students,” says Barry Culhane, chair of the festival. “We’re incredibly proud that such a key element of our festival marketing campaign was conceived, developed and produced by our students. We’re sure that the RIT and Rochester communities will enjoy their work.”

The first in a series of three videos, all of which feature 3D digital graphics, debuted April 13 on a variety of RIT social media outlets. To view the video, go to the Imagine RIT 2011 part 1 video.

The remaining videos will be released in the two weeks that follow.

The Imagine RIT: Innovation and Creativity Festival takes place from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. May 7 on the RIT campus. It will feature hundreds of interactive exhibits, demonstrations and performances. Admission is free. Go to the Imagine RIT website for more information.
