Professor, writer and philosopher Cornel West was the keynote speaker for RIT’s Expressions of King’s Legacy Celebration Jan. 23. Prior to his presentation in the Gordon Field House and Activities Center, West discussed Martin Luther King Jr. and issues of social justice with philosophy students in the College of Liberal Arts. “As one of the premier public intellectuals, Dr. West forces people to think critically and talks about current issues and their impact on society,” says Kevin McDonald, vice president for diversity and inclusion. The event also featured performances by Garth Fagan Dance and poet Joshua Bennett, who read excerpts from his book, Jesus Riding Shotgun.
