When hospitality extends beyond service: Students' visit to the Maritimo Recycling
Sophomores and seniors of the Hospitality and Tourism Management program in Dubrovnik, led by professors Milena Kužnin, Iva Adžić Kušt, and Danijela Crljen, recently visited Maritimo Recycling, gaining firsthand insight into the operations of this non-profit organization dedicated to cleaning the Adriatic sea.
Maritimo Recycling is a non-profit organization based in Dubrovnik, dedicated to cleaning the Adriatic Sea and creating durable products and innovative plastic recycling machines. They produce high-quality, affordable products and aim to empower citizens to join the fight against marine pollution. Just in 2025, they recorded an admiring environmental, economic, and social impact.
During their site visit, students observed how discarded plastics are transformed into high-quality, handcrafted products. This experience allowed them to see beyond the classroom, understanding that the future of premium hospitality depends deeply on the health of our local ecosystems and the creative ways we manage waste.
In an engaging and relaxed atmosphere, the labor-intensive process of Maritimo’s joint team effort reminded future hoteliers and tourism planners of their responsibility towards the Adriatic coast. It was a powerful reminder that true hospitality extends beyond service; it is about caring for the destination and the community that makes Dubrovnik a world-class home for travelers.
